Back of Frame

A frame is measured from the internal rebate to the internal rebate. These are the measurements given most commonly when ordering a picture frame. Often referred to as the 'glass size', it is the size of the piece of glass required that will not fall through the central aperture in the frame. An 'aperture' is the term used when ordereing mounts or frames, and refers to the hole in either.

Front of Frame

The measurement of a frame is not usually carried out in the manner opposite. This method is typically reserved for occassions where a picture is required to fill a given area. You will see sizes such as this quoted on mirrors, for example, to give an idea of overall size for the framed item on sale.

Mount Measurements

If you wish to order a mount with your frame in "made to measure frames and mounts" the system will automatically deduct 8mm from your measurements which will allow the mount to sit on top of your picture / image 4mm all around - this will ensure a perfect fit.

If you are going to order a mount with your frame in "made to measure frames and mounts" and you require the aperture to be an exact size you need to add 8mm to your height and width measurements. This will cancel out the automatic 8 mm deduction and make the aperture the exact size you require.

If you are going to order a mount using the quote form in the mount sections you need to deduct 8mm from your height and width measurements in order for the mount to sit on top of your picture / image 4mm all around -  this will ensure a perfect fit.

If you are going to order a mount using the quote form in the frame sections and you require the aperture (hole) to be an exact size there is no need to deduct any measurements as the aperture will be cut to the exact sizes on the form.
