Memorabilia
Framing memorabilia is highly specialised, and as such, it requires specific materials that are not always known to standard framing companies. Therefore, we offer a complete service at competitive prices with all products completed to a very high standard. Each item is assessed on its on merits and we work with you to ensure the final design meets your needs. |
Framed memorabilia: Medal presented to former Prime Minister of Singapore. |
The majority of memorabilia that is presented for framing has depth to it. Typically, memorabilia may include the following, but we can frame almost anything!:
- medals
- sport shirts
- footballs
- collections (coins, matchboxes, shells etc)
- clothing
- boquets
- awards
This presents its own challenges, in that the frames we use, need to be deep enough to take the item and have glass or perspex at the front plus the item and backing board etc. Not all frames are suitable for this kind of framing as most mouldings are only deep enough to take something that is paper thin with glass, mount and backing. As virtually all memorabilia has a value, whether sentimental or otherwise, all boards etc should be acid free.
Fabric items, such as sports shirts, christening robes, antique fabrics etc need to be sewn onto a backing board first so that they are held in place, a spacer (usually acid free) is then used in the rebate to separate the surface of the fabric from the glass. This is important so as not to squash the item and also to allow a breathing space as any moisture between glass and fabric could cause the fabric to rot. Fabric items can also be suspended on rods and then displayed in perspex boxes. This is a very minimal look and perfect for a more contemporary finish.
Framed memorabilia: A Scottish kilt and sporran. |
Glass or perspex is necessary to protect the item from general pollutants in the air, preventing the item from becoming dusty and helping to avoid moisture in the environment from interacting with the object. With more rigid items such as boxing gloves, balls, cricket bats etc, there are various techniques for holding these items in place, by either using a fine nylon thread, or in the case of perspex boxes, a ledge can be created within the box. Each item has its own challenges and subsequently we treat each item on an individual basis to overcome any difficulties in displaying them.
We have framed many items, from wedding bouquets, clothing items, matchbox collections to 3D deep collage arrangements. If you need any advice on whether it is practicable to frame an item you have in mind, please contact us or call into our shop.
